They're both washed-up, but who was more amazing in her peak?
If it's the length of their peak, then I think it's Ayumi Hamasaki's victory, no contest.

If you're talking about the peak, then it's got to be Ayumi Hamasaki right?
But they're both relics of the past.
If you're talking about the "boom" then it's got to be Ayumi Hamasaki >>> Kumi Koda.
Hama also maintained her popularity for a longer time. Now is AKB48's time, though!
It's like you're talking about shi+ vs. puke on this thread w
Anyone could tell that Ayumi Hamasaki had the better peak.
Sorry, but I don't think there will be any more developments in this discussion?
But Kuu-chan won in ero-kawaii*-ness

Hamasaki was really amazing in the past.
Auntie Hamasaki was bad-mouthing Koda in the salon since she was so frustrated that Koda got to marry and have a kid
Koda made the bigger headlines.

I don't think so. During Hamasaki's peak, she was on the verge of annoyance as she was on all sorts of media every single day. Every little thing she said became news. Everyone just kept chanting the name "Ayu, Ayu" and kept praising her. Kumi Koda didn't reach that level. Are you from a generation who doesn't know Ayumi Hamasaki's peak?

It wasn't just her music, but her fashion also kept making the news during that time.
Her clothes, hair, even accessories.
Everything became a fad without exception.

Well, she did make the news with her "rotten amniotic fluid" remark and that she stole her little sister's man
Hamasaki felt like she got hidden behind Utada's shadows, rather, there was this very strong image that she always lost to Utada so I feel like Koda was the one who stood at the top

↑Koda at the top? Is your head alright?
This is a thread where the granny Hama-wotas are just getting jealous of Koda
Without any sort of bias, Ayumi Hamasaki's upsurge was far greater than Kumi Koda's. When you compare Hamasaki to Hikaru Utada, then yes, her CD sales might have been inferior, but I think Ayumi Hamasaki was quite a phenomenon herself.
They used to say nothing but "Ayu this, Ayu that" during the morning showbiz news reports everyday back then.

When you think about it normally, there's no way that Kumi Koda was bigger.
I really do think that Ayumi Hamasaki dominated a generation back then. Even if she's like this right now.
Err, but regardless of Hamasaki, there was never a time when Koda was at the top.

I don't know the prime of those 3, so when I asked my mother (45) who has gone through it all, she said, "I don't think there's much of a difference between Amuro and Hamasaki, but if I were to choose, I'd say Amuro-chan. I don't think Kumi Koda can be compared to the 2". And when I asked, "What about Amuro, Hamasaki, and AKB?", she said, "That's a toughie... I think it's a pretty good match, though?". When I asked again, "What about Seiko Matsuda, Amuro, and Hamasaki?" she said, "That's another tough one.... But regardless of how huge they may have been, I don't think Amuro-chan nor Ayu will be talked about for generations to come, right?". The Amuro generation will definitely say that it's Amuro, while the Hamasaki generation will say it's Hamasaki. My mom's 45 so I think this is a pretty objective opinion.
But Hamasaki doesn't have a popular song, right?
I know Utada's "It's Automatic~" and "First Love", but I don't know Hamasaki's songs
Amuro, rather, the Komuro boom really was amazing... at that time
>35のお母さんの意見はまとも。
Komuro really was something. Each one may have his or her own way of perceiving things, but there's also this strong image that Amuro was just one of Komuro's pawns. The current Amuro is a goddess, though. Frankly speaking, I don't think there's that huge of a gap between the Amuro boom and the Hamasaki boom. One of Amuro's advantages is that she had "Can you~". I don't dislike Kumi Koda, but she's one rank below them. It would've been better if Kumi Koda had a cuter face.
And I think >>35's mom has a respectable opinion.
Ayumi Hamasaki conquered television, and also had the popularity. Even my dad used to say that Ayu was cute.
Hamasaki was the one who was able to involve non-fans and the general public more.
Koda's overwhelming victory

↑ You mean her filthiness
Why this thread just now?
No matter how you think about it, Ayumi Hamasaki's peak was more amazing.
If we're not talking about "ability" and just the "epic-ness of their peak" then Ayumi Hamasaki's the only choice.
But it's a close fight when it comes to cheapness.
If it's about vulgarity, they're pretty much the same, but if it's foul-mouthedness, it's definitely Koda.
If you're talking about bad personalities, then Hamasaki without question.
I feel Koda's "ero-kawaii" was a bigger boom...
Hamasaki wasn't that bad too, though.
If it's gaffes and scandals, then Koda takes the cake
The younger ones now don't know about Hamasaki's prime.
They might not even be aware of her very existence.
Hamasaki → Social phenomenon
Koda → Social issue
I think in Hamasaki's case, her looks were her strong point, more so than her songs. But look at how she is now.
The way Ayumi Hamasaki;s image was lifted by the media was just abnormal. Even petty Hamasaki stuff became news, and it really felt similar to how AKB is now. But Hamasaki also had amazing sales so no one thought that it was a case of overpushing. And Utada wasn't too overexposed so when Utada wasn't out, everything was all Hamasaki's for the taking.

Can't you even read the thread title?
People who are saying Kumi Koda are probably people from the age group who have no memory of the Ayumi Hamasaki boom. Even without your nostalgia goggles on, the Ayu boom was much more epic.
But it's really surprising how Hamasaki climbed all the way up to the top despite her not having any singing talent at all ww
So is this where the remnants of Ayu's fans are settling? w
It was a generation that had no Internet, so everyone was able to do stealth marketing as much as they wanted to, right? That kind of thing will never work in this age.
Koda's peak just overlapped when Hamasaki was already on the decline, but you can't even compare the actual success that these 2 had.
Hamasaki at her peak went beyond the boundaries of music as she became a social phenomenon. Everyone had their eyes on everything she did and said.
Utada is a true-blue artist of the music industry. Her fashion sense and her looks were almost never talked about.
Compared to this, Hamasaki and Koda are stereotypical celebrities. Their fashion and visuals were undoubtedly looked at, because that was their selling point.
