Why did Japan's video game industry decline? To think that it was on top of the world just a few years ago

Foreign gamers: "Japan's games only cater to the otaku culture"
When the games were still in the 16-bit - 32-bit era, Japanese games such as Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda and Pocket Monster dominated the gaming industry, winning the hearts of almost every international gaming fan. Japanese culture and technology was widely received well and was far from being considered a "solitary island".
One reason why Japan's video game industry has been called a "solitary island" now is the different paths Japan's market and the international market have taken, making both seemingly incompatible now. International bestsellers have not become hits in Japan, while international users are having a hard time understanding Japanese games, such as DMM's Kantai Collection ~KanColle~.
Japanese games may be prioritizing the quality of the visuals along with usability, but this in the process might have helped the country get immersed in its otaku culture further.

SEGA's Nagoshi: "Japan should be proud that games where you kill people haven't gotten major"
人を殺すのが楽しい、犯罪を犯すのが楽しいという感情を前向きに促すのは僕はどうしても出来ない。
アメリカはそういうゲームに寛容だが日本は違う。そこは日本が誇っていい事。
SEGA's Nagoshi
"I personally don't think that I can, and will be able to, take the enjoyment of 'killing' and 'committing crimes' positively. America is pretty open-minded with those kinds of games, but that's not the case in Japan. This is something Japan should be proud of."

Tower Records announces the top selling albums of 2013 (Western/Japanese music)
The rankings reflect the combined total sales of the imported, Japanese, limited, analog, etc. versions of each album until November 30.
Maximum The Hormone's Ryo-kun comments about their album getting first place in the Japanese music category:
"Whoooah! Hormone is the best seller in 2013?
*´∀`)。o○(Will they treat me to sushi?)
*´∀`)。o○(Will they give me a pass to do xxx all I wish to the xxx of the cute girl who's working at Tower Records?)
Buying music online or by downloading is very convenient and nice. But buying CDs from the store based on the album cover, buying albums of artists you don't know after reading the staff's comments about it, unwrapping the CDs on your way home on the train since you can't wait any longer, and reading the lyric sheets and liner notes... Those feelings of excitement! All of us should keep on cherishing that!"

The reason for Perfume's popularity in the West is because of their "concerts and black hair"
"Perfume's best dance album" is the label attached to this latest release, and has been off to a flying start as it debuted at number 1, their 5th consecutive album to debut at the top spot, and the first time a female group has done so in 20 years and 8 months, with Princess Princess being the last. It has been made available for download in 119 countries and regions, and ranked 1st on Japan's weekly iTunes album charts, and also placed 1st on Hong Kong's, Taiwan's, Singapore's, and Thailand's iTunes electronic album charts. It also ranked in the top 10 in 19 different countries including the US and Canada.
Due to the demands, the actual CD will also be released in 14 different countries. The digital market is greater overseas, and demands for actual CD releases like this is a rare case. In response to these demands, they will be releasing an "international version" of the album with English text in the album booklet. The DVD will also have English, Chinese, and Korean subtitles so international fans can also enjoy everything the Japanese fans have been getting.
A label representative discusses the reason for their popularity overseas. "They were already popular in Asia where people have been used to the Japanese language and kanji characters, but their popularity has spread over to the West, thanks in part to their European tour last July." He continues to analyze: "Especially in the West, people have been paying attention to their concerts that make use of the latest technology to create stunning visual effects, as well as their fashion sense. I also believe that their naturally beautiful black hair is the reason why they have appealed to Western fans."

Saki Aibu for Gillette: "Men should be more aggressive and kiss more"
Saki Aibu (28) was at a Gillette talk show event on the 28th together with comedy duo Heisei Nobushi Kobushi. This was Aibu's first public event since coming back from her 4-month-long language study in the US.
"I've had a lot of wonderful experiences and met a lot of different people. I was able to experience a totally different culture, and it was really fun. I've gained a lot of international friends, and it has made me interested in a lot of different countries. I've made a lot of different memories."Saki Aibu has already started work for Fuji TV's new serial drama Miss Pilot which will start on October 15.
"I wasn't bothered by the jet lag".
When asked about her language studies: "I personally think that I am now able to communicate much better than before I left."
The press asked her to introduce herself in English, to which she responded: "I'll do that at another time."
When asked if she met a wonderful man: "I was able to meet a lot of different men and women."
"Men should be more aggressive and kiss more. People do it as a means of communication overseas, and they do it on the streets. I was thinking that Japanese men should be more aggressive and do it more."
