The Broadcasting Ethics & Program Improvement Organization (BPO) and their committee on the youth and broadcasting have decided not to subject NTV's drama Ashita, Mama ga inai into further deliberation.

The BPO did comment that "dramas need to be more considerate towards the various institutions concerned" but also said "it will also be a problem if this will make the handling of delicate matters more difficult", and thus decided to drop the investigation on the said program. The head of the committee will be releasing an official comment soon regarding this.

Jikei Hospital in Kumamoto city held a press conference on the 16th and called for the cancellation of the drama Ashita, Mama ga inai, citing "violation of human rights" as the drama "gives a misinterpretation and is prejudiced against the children and the staff who are working in these child care institutions".

The drama is about children in an orphanage who are longing for the love and protection of mothers and is gathering a lot of attention, thanks to the collaboration of child actors Mana Ashida and Rio Suzuki.

Jikei hospital is the only hospital in Japan which has a child care facility "Kounotorinoyurikago" that receives newborns which the parents could not afford to raise.

In the drama, Ashida is called "post", which according to the hospital is "mental and spiritual abuse, and a violation of human rights".

They also cited: "The institutional staff in the drama are treating the children harshly, and are giving more emphasis to the crying scenes which is too unrealistic, and will lead to misunderstandings, prejudice and discrimination". This is purported to be the scene where the head of the institution in the drama played by Hiroshi Mikami said, "You can start off by 'eating' the ones who are crying", and "You kids are similar to dogs in a pet shop". The hospital will be officially requesting for the cancellation and explanation of production details in the near future.
