I think he was really hated when he released white powder towards the face of the others from his butt, on prime time TV.
Egashira knew the consequences and still did that for comedy's sake so I commend him for that.

That's one of his go-to-gags and does that in a lot of different places, but the moment he did it during the New Year (Waratte wa ikenai) and stood out, he suddenly gets censored by the BPO. That's so wrong.

I like him, but he's selling himself off as a "hateable character". And he's also in the most liked list, so you can see that he isn't just hated.
