HUNTERxHUNTER made its debut in 1998, followed shortly by an anime series in 1999. The reboot of the anime came in 2011, as the "Elections arc" will begin this July.
Togashi has already gone on hiatus numerous times in the past, as the previous chapter was last published in March of 2012.

Even if he manages to finish Hunter by chance, it'll probably be impossible for him to do another series. If he can, maybe it'll be a short series like LEVEL-something -- which might still even be doubtful.

Well, even before he started doing Hunter, he already had enough money to feed him for life with his earnings from YuYu and his wife's profits. He'll probably take the same route as Toriyama.
Does this mean that he's saved up material good for 2 years? If so, then will he continue with the series for at least 2 years?

If doing a series at a weekly pace is tough, then he can opt to go monthly.
But it's still interesting = justice. And that's why Togashi is forgiven.

Whatever, but if he wants to do grotesque stuff then he should go publish his stuff in seinen (young men) magazines instead. This guy's stuff makes me feel sick and I don't want to read things like that in shonen magazines.

This guy's manga is by far the most interesting one in Jump right now. This week's storyline gave me goosies.
This is true for Togashi, but if he puts effort in his drawings then I get worried that he'll run out of gas pretty quickly. The art in his comeback chapter was good, but I get the feeling that he'll start taking a break on the week after next and then will enter a 1 and a half year hiatus in 2 months.
I've never read the series once, but would it still be fun even if I started just now? I'd love to try reading if the story's intense. One Piece was too light for me, and I just dropped it midway. I've never read Berserk yet.

It's hard to say that this was all just coincidental
They say that there are a lot of mangakas whose abilities deteriorate, or they lose ideas when they take long breaks, but it's really such a mystery that there's no worry about that kind of thing for Togashi.
I read the chapter. His ability to immediately draw in the reader is quite something. I honestly think that his skills as a mangaka are amazing to totally make the Ant arc a thing of the past in his 1st chapter back.
I'm actually surprised that he's taken such a long time off from work
なんつーか やはりマンガは絵が上手いかよりも、 話が面白いかどうかだと思ったわ。
しかし、今のジャンプはハンターしか読むマンガが無い。 ブリーチとかナルトとか、グダグダ続けてるだけで内容が薄い。 休んででももっと話を練ればいいのに。
ワンピースはゴチャゴチャしてて単行本が多過ぎるので読むのを挫折した。
HUNTERxHUNTER really is good. And recently, I also thought that Yamikin Ushijima-kun was fun too.
This once again made me realize that having a good story is much better than having good drawings for a manga.
But HUNTER's the only manga that I'll be reading in Jump now. Bleach and Naruto are just dragging on endlessly, with such a shallow storyline. I'd prefer that they take a hiatus too and come up with a better story.
One Piece on the other hand is too messy and there are just too many volumes, I gave up on reading it.

Was the Kurapika movie any good? Togashi made the story, right? Personally, I would have preferred Togashi's younger brother to make a comeback instead. The ero-mangas he drew were really wonderful. If you take out the hermaphrodite components, though.
As expected, when L'Arc starts to go active, Togashi will too
I guess you can call his comeback a success if he can manage to write enough material for one volume
16 years ago, no one probably thought that Togashi, who abruptly ended Yuyu Hakusho in the middle of the Makai saga, would keep on doing Hunter for such a long time. Mangakas these days, when they want to try something new, they won't make a new one but instead just try to stuff in all those ideas and elements in the current series that they're running.
Well, Togashi produced massive hits with Yuyu and Hunterx2 so he's got no problems with money

Bleach and Naruto both have over 50 volumes out, while Hunter only has around 30, right? He's gone on way too many breaks.

ワンピースは作者が病気でやばいらしいからもっと休めと思うけど、 休ませてもらえないんだろうな（笑 このままでは尾田はマジで病死すると思う。 どーでもいいけど。
HUNTERxHUNTER has too many breaks in between, but I actually think that's alright as long as it's still fun to read.
In contrast, I wouldn't mind Bleach and Naruto to take a break, just so they can try to beef up the stories a bit more. They're too shallow at the moment.
I want One Piece to take more breaks on the other hand because of the author's illness, but I don't think the editors will allow him to. LOL. At this rate, I honestly think Oda will just die due to his sickness.
Not that I care anyway.
