Kanjani8's Tadayoshi Okura's drama Dr. DMAT is struggling with the ratings

Episode 2 of TBS drama Dr. DMAT (Thursday-9:00) starring Tadayoshi Okura of Kanjani8 got 7.2% in the Kanto region. The first episode got 7.9%.

The drama is based on the manga of the same name, and illustrates the exploits of the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) which was formed in 2004 with the full support of Tokyo's fire department. This is Okura's first leading role in a drama and his first time playing a doctor.

He stars together with Ai Kato (31), Miori Takimoto (22), and Ken Ishiguro (47).

Ayumi Hamasaki to get married to an American medical student

Ayumi Hamasaki (35) announced through her fansite "Team Ayu" on Dec. 13 that she will be marrying an American medical student (25) from UCLA. According to representatives, Hamasaki headed to L.A. on the 12th and proceeded to settle their engagement. Hamasaki met the man during the New Year break early this year, and they started dating around springtime. This will be her second marriage.  

Hamasaki previously married Austrian actor Manuel Schwarz on January 1, 2011 in Las Vegas, but got divorced on Jan. 16, 2012. News that she was actually registered as single broke out during her "divorce" as she did not officially submit her marriage registry to California and Japan. She also announced her relationship with backup dancer Maroka Uchiyama (29) in November 2012, but broke up with him in January this year due to Uchiyama not having formally divorced his previous wife.

Shota Matsuda & Emi Takei in the Monday-9 drama "Umi no Ue no Shinryoujo"

Shota Matsuda will be starring in Fuji TV's new Monday nights at 9 drama which will start in October, Umi no Ue no Shinryoujo (Clinic above the sea) as a playboy doctor on a medical ship. He will be playing a comedic role, Kota Sezaki, an excellent doctor who falls in love with various patients as he visits the various islands around the Seto Inland Sea, yet gets turned down all the time.

Emi Takei will be playing the role of a rough and spirited nurse who will be his partner at work. This will be her first time as a heroine on the Monday night at 9 slot.

This drama draws inspiration from the actual medical ship, the "Saiseimaru" that goes around the Seto Inland Sea. The drama will be close-ended per episode as Sezaki's object of  affection will change with each episode.

Matsuda comments: "I will be playing the role of a funny doctor so I'm really excited. I hope to establish a close friendship with the cast and the staff as we shoot on these isolated islands."
Takei comments: "It's a character that I have never played before so I'm really excited. I'm looking forward to seeing how my character will develop along with Matsuda-san's Kota as the story progresses."

Ryoko Yonekura returns for Doctor X sequel coming in October

Ryoko Yonekura will be starring once again as Michiko Daimon in Season 2 of Doctor X ~ Surgeon Michiko Daimon, TV Asahi Thursdays at 9pm.
