Kanna Hashimoto and Rev. from DVL to make their CD debut

1: 三毛猫φ ★ 2014/03/02 13:51:56
Kanna Hashimoto (15), the "one-in-a-thousand prospect" and "angelic idol", and her Fukuoka-based idol group Rev. from DVL will be releasing their debut CD on April 16 with the help of Yoshimoto Kogyo.

The group formed 4 years ago in Fukuoka and primarily performed at local live houses. But after a fan uploaded Kanna's picture on the Internet from a show in May last year, 2channel immediately took notice and called it a "miraculous picture". Since then, the live footage of their performance at Asakusa Hanayashiki has been played over 2.5 million times on YouTube. Their agency's homepage also went down due to too many people accessing it.

Yoshimoto, who took notice of this popularity, offered to let the unit make their debut under the label YM3D. Kanna comments: "I respect AKB-san and MomoClo-san. I don't intend to lose to any other idol around the nation, but I consider myself as my main rival. I hope we can make it to the Kouhaku in 2 or 3 years' time.".

Ciao☆ I'm Gurasan (Sunglasses), who writes his own songs.

I'm mortified as some crazy person suddenly told me, "I will never buy your CD ever again". But I will never remove my sunglasses. I believe that everything in life is a trial. Namu~.

I got worried there if they were going to restrict the sales of my CD for a moment there, but it was alright. Well, of course (LOL)

Tetsuya Komuro: "The concept of 'hit songs' has collapsed"

1: :禿の月φ 2013/10/11 18:40:18
Musical producer Tetsuya Komuro expressed his opinions about the current state of J-POP on Twitter.

"The concept of 'hit songs' has collapsed. People have too many choices now, and there aren't a lot of things in common anymore." He points out that it's harder to make "hit songs" these days due to the diversity of music.
* (This was after a Twitter user told him, "Komuro-san seems to have taken a step ahead of the times, and you can't make a hit song if the listeners can't follow you. I get the feeling that Komuro-san can't make any more hits".)

He continues: "There will be people who will think that the Tokyo Sky Tree is the best, and there will also be people who consider the Tokyo Tower as the symbol of Tokyo." He also used Uniqlo, GAP, H&M, and FOREVER21 as examples and said "The quality of commodities have gone up, even music, everything is of pretty good quality", as he suggests that we are now in the times where we can easily get things that have pretty good quality.

A follower asked him, "Even still, don't you think that there's still 'something ubiquitous' that will not change?." Komuro replies, "I think I know what that 'something ubiquitous' is. It'll be a lot of manual labor so please give me some time. It's all a mix of music, words, and interval", as he shows his desire to create new songs.

AKB48's new single "Heart Ereki" sells over a million on the first day, breaks B'z record

1: 三毛猫φ ★ 2013/10/30(水) 20:05:22.19 ID:???0
Idol group AKB48's 33rd single "Heart Ereki" (Heart Electric) released on the 30th sold a total of 1.02 million units on it's first day and ranked first on the 10/29 daily rankings. This is the first time in history that an artist has released 14 consecutive singles that have recorded over 1 million in sales.

This is the 14th consecutive million-seller for AKB48, dating back to their 20th single in February of 2011 "Sakura no ki ni narou", and their 15th in total. They have broken B'z record of 13 straight singles that have sold over a million which started from "LADY NAVIGATION" (March 1991) to "REAL THING SHAKES" (May 1996).

Even in the total number of singles that have surpassed a million sales category, they have tied with B'z with a total of 15 singles, and are on the verge of taking the solo lead. Another feat achieved by AKB48 is that this is their 21st straight single, dating back from their 13th single "Iiwake Maybe" (August 2009), to debut at #1 on the first day in the daily rankings.

This song is influenced by the "group sound" that was popular in the 1960s. Released exactly 8 years from October 30, 2005 when Haruna Kojima (25) passed the "AKB48 Opening Member Auditions", this single commemorates her first time taking the center spot for a single.

Kojima comments: "When I received the mail from Akimoto-sensei that 'Kojima will be the center', I thought there must have been some mistake, or that it was spam mail or something. But I am truly happy that I was chosen to be the center for a single that has achieved such an honorable feat". Minami Takahashi (22) also gave her comments: "I felt happy and honored after hearing that we made history with 14 straight singles that sold over a million. We will keep our feet on the ground as all members will strive to do our best so that we will not put shame to this feat".

Ken Yokoyama: "Sakanaction could have been selling 2 million copies 10 years ago"

1: ◆YKPE.6U.2. @ゆきぺφ ★ 2013/10/17(木) 14:33:36.12 ID:???0
(Partial translation)
--There seems to be a lot of bands who are doing well in both their concert ticket and merchandise sales.

Yokoyama:
Yes, merchandise and concert ticket sales are doing well. Most especially for touring bands, merchandise sales really is their life line. People will keep attending concerts as long as these bands stay cool. Why? Because you may be able to create copies of CDs and books, but you can never copy experience.

And that is why these bands can still earn a living through their concert sales even if their CDs don't sell well. But whatever the case, these bands will still need a manager, for example, a person who could negotiate with the concert venues how much they will be able to earn per concert.

But just doing concerts aimlessly won't bring in the profits. These bands should look at things on a long-term perspective, make use of various connections, and only then will they be able to earn a living from touring. But it has become increasingly difficult to achieve such dreams of being a musician, and to once again achieve the glory that the Hi-Standard achieved back in the '90s. This is truly mortifying as a musician, and I also feel a bit sorry for the bands now since we were able to have a taste of the good life when the times were still in the music industry's favor.

--You feel sorry?

Yokoyama:
There are times that I feel bad when I see stuff like Yamaguchi-kun of Sakanaction's tweets. I'm sure that this band could have sold a million records, or 2 even,  if they were just around 10 years earlier. I also feel this way for the CD shops that are so desperate now. I'm sure that there were a lot of shops back in the late '90s which earned money when they sold our CDs, and other artists' CDs. This is also true for the other retail stores. I feel bad, since they're all going up against this goliath called Amazon... How are you planning on going up against that?

Twitter Reactions

- "And once again, AKB, Arashi, and EXILE are ruling the CD annual charts. If the music industry still does not understand why CDs aren't selling at all with this data, then CD sales (excluding a portion) will just continue to plummet"

- "I've already gotten used to seeing AKB and Johnny's occupying these annual CD rankings."

- "It's not that there's anything bad about these top 10 charts being occupied by AKB groups, Arashi and EXILE, but this makes me sad. (T ^ T) And there's only 1 song I know out of this Σ(゚д゚lll)"
