Similar to an idol concert? Yuzuru Hanyu: "I heard the cheers, but that didn't really affect my performance"

1: 2014/03/27(木) 09:14:51.28 ID:???0
On Day 1 of the World Figure Skating Championships, Men's short program, the "Ice Prince", Yuzuru Hanyu (19) fell after his quadruple spin toe loop and started off the Men's short program with 91.24 points, ranking in at 3rd for the day. Sochi Olympics 5th placer Tatsuki Machida (24) broke his personal best with a score of 98.21. Takahiko Kozuka (25), who skated in place of the injured Daisuke Takahashi (28), scored 85.64 and ranked 6th.

The event seemed like an idol concert. Right before Hanyu's performance, a group of girls screamed, "Yuzu, we love you~!", which awkwardly cued his music "Parisienne Walkways". He made a mistake in his specialty, the quadruple toe loop, as he lacked revolutions and made a mistake in his landing. The "Ice Prince" went on to recover and made a combination of a triple axel and a 3-3 spin, but only smiled wryly after his performance. The 91.24 points is far below his world record score of 101.45, and his noble face seemingly turned askew as he heard the score being announced.

"I heard the cheers (prior to the performance), but that didn't really affect my performance. I came in here, probably too overconfident and slightly lacked focus because I know I didn't make any mistakes in the SP routine. I can't say that I'm happy with this at all, and I am angry at myself. I really can't forgive myself."

Yuzuru Hanyu reveals his feelings about the Great Tohoku Disaster on its 3rd Anniversary

1: かばほ~るφ ★ 2014/03/10 13:49:13
"I headed into the Sochi Olympics with the thought of winning a medal and give it as a present to Japan which got wounded by the disaster. But after actually winning the competition, I suddenly felt powerless. I realized that the gold medal won't be able to directly help the recovery process. I had to transfer my base for training from Sendai where I was born all the way to Canada in order to aim for the gold, but I did start to think if it really was such a good idea to leave behind my hometown which was demolished by the disaster.

"3 years ago, on that day, I was training on the rink in Sendai. The ice suddenly rippled and then burst. The tremor was so strong, I couldn't even stand on my feet. Then I started to run away, crying, fearing that 'I might die like this'. Up to now, I still see flashbacks of that scene in my head. My tears do not stop, and I cry out in my sleep.

"There was also a time when I thought about quitting the sport altogether, but this changed the following year, last 2012, when I realized something after winning the bronze medal at the World Championships thanks to everyone's cheers and support. In my mind, I was skating for the sake of the other victims to give them strength and courage, but I realized that it was actually I who was being supported by them. It was the same in the Olympics. Their cheers and support helped give that little push on my back. The gold medal wasn't won just by myself, but by everyone who cheered me on.

"As a gold medal winner, I can now see what I should do. I intend to keep on skating in order to deliver to everyone what I truly feel -- please do not ever forget about the disaster-hit areas."

Rena Nounen to appear in NHK's Great Tohoku Disaster concert

UPDATE: 2chan's new "global moderator" JIM-san has revealed that there is actually no reproduction/copy ban (there were just a few misunderstandings between him and his moderators) so we will be bringing back the old format soon :) We're just away for the weekend and already have a stash of posts with this new format scheduled for the next 2-3 days. Thanks for all your feedback and concern, and as always, thanks for reading!

Actress Rena Nounen will be participating in NHK's Shinsai kara 3-nen "Ashita he" concert (3 years from the disaster "On to Tomorrow" concert) which will be broadcast live on the 10th from the NHK Hall. Nounen will be making a VTR appearance. Also slated for an appearance is Sochi Olympics gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu.

Nounen paid a visit to a high school photographer who has continuously taken pictures of Miyagi prefecture's Ishinomaki city throughout this time to document all the changes the city has undergone. Nounen comments: "I thought that this high school student who kept on taking photographs of his hometown was wonderful, as he was determined to do something in his own little way. It once again made me feel that I should also face whatever challenge that comes my way without turning back. And this was also my first time to take pictures with other people so I really had fun. Now I'm in love with Ishinomaki's ocean and mountains.".

SMAP's Masahiro Nakai and NHK's Yumiko Udo will be hosting the event, as Sayuri Ishikawa, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Masashi Sada, Toshiyuki Nishida, Chisato Moritaka, AKB48, SMAP, Kobukuro, Yuzu, and Kis-My-Ft2 will all be participating.

"I think I'm going crazy from thinking too much about Yuzu-kun" - The women fantasizing about Yuzuru Hanyu

Hello everyone! We will be changing the format of our posts moving forward as 2channel now has a "no transfer/copy" policy (which was actually retracted earlier today ^_^; ). Anyway, to be safe, we won't be posting the numbers nor the Japanese text anymore, only the translations. We will still be including a link to the original thread at the bottom of the post for your reference. We would like to apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. Thanks!

The popularity of Yuzuru Hanyu (19), gold medalist in men's figure skating at the recently concluded Sochi Olympics, has been increasing each day. But among these are the people who are getting addicted to him in a slightly different way.

"When he doesn't speak or do anything, he's just a pretty boy with long and sharp eyes. But when he smiles, he's like a little girl. It even seems like he's a male character who jumped out of Moto Hagio and Keiko Takemiya's mangas and got lost in the real world. He's more like an untouchable being, rather than a prince charming for one to admire... Every single day, I think of Yuzu-kun too much, and I think I'm going crazy. I just love how Yuzu-kun looked at the kiss and cry area and you can't imagine how many times I re-watched that scene." (40s/Housewife)

Kiss and cry is the area in an ice rink where figure skaters wait for their marks to be announced after their performances together with the coach. There are a lot of women who found Hanyu-kun extremely attractive in this area.

"He really looked like a maiden when he was resting his chin on his hand while waiting for his score. My heart races when I see him happily hugging his Pooh-san doll. When I see him like that, it makes me think that he sincerely accepts us as well." (40s/"girl")

For the record, Hanyu loves the Disney character Winnie the Pooh. His room is full of Pooh-san dolls, and his tissue case which he used at the end of his performance also had a Pooh-san drawing.

"After his sexy performance with his overflowing aura, his face suddenly changed from a tense one to a bashful one. Then he takes out tissues from his pooh-san tissue case and blows his nose. That gap in his character is so irresistible. And the way he moves his hands. The day he shows his small, lady-like gestures as he delicately moves his hands in front of his chest, I think I'll..." (50s/Housewife)
Sorry... I'm scared to know what comes after that.

Yuzuru Hanyu: "I'm going to donate all my prize money"

1: ヒップアタック(埼玉県):2014/02/25(火) 16:09:40.91 ID:+U8CQZj4P
The charter flight that carried Team Japan from Sochi arrived at 9:22 in the morning of February 25 at Narita Airport.

5 medal winners, along with President Seiko Hashimoto, were at Tokyo's Takanawa Prince Hotel for a press conference in the afternoon.

Yuzuru Hanyu's (19) comment: "I think I was able to deliver something to the people who watched us perform. I am truly honored that I was able to come back home attaining the best possible result, but I also have some issues to settle. I need to become a strong athlete who will be able to carry the burden of being the Olympic Champion. I want to donate the prize money that I won here to those who have been affected by the disaster, as well as for building more skating rinks".

Bitter Daisuke Takahashi fans vent their frustrations and start pointing fingers...

The anticipated worst case scenario has become a reality, and I feel like throwing up after Daisuke-san's pain and suffering is being shown right in front of me. Everyone ganged up against him, shoved him into a corner, and against all the odds, he still performed his heart out. This once again makes me realize how strong of a human being Daisuke Takahashi is. He was probably a hindrance to all those dirty people.

のりたまご ?@noritxxxxx513 2月16日
The Japan Skating Federation has hurt Daisuke Takahashi over and over, a miraculous figure skater whom we may never see the likes of again, and has finally forsaken him. But it seems that the people of the world have a better eye for skating.

おやびん ?@nyxxx0206 2月16日
TV's influence is amazing.
They were able to promote this nice and humble pretty boy, overflowing with talent and oozing with style -- the perfect athlete to become the new ace of the Japanese figure skating world. His name and popularity are just skyrocketing through the roof.

おやびん ?@nyxxx0206 2月16日
He may have been able to get the gold medal, but if they just took care of Dai-chan as Japan's ace, then Dai-chan could've won the gold medal himself. He's Japan's wonderful ace who worked so hard for the sake of everyone. I can't forgive that guy for trampling on Dai-chan.
