People don't want a second-rate version of something they already have. He was basically a poser, which is a shame, because he's talented.

Hikaru Utada couldn't even make it here and she is a native English speaker, a gifted songwriter and a phenom in Japan. Psy only had one hit because he is the stereotype of a nerdy Asian guy and had a gimmicky dance. Jin didn't have any chance, but I agree he was trying to be too Western, which I'd say for Hikki on TITO too.
DeleteI think it's so silly that people point to the few Asian artists who have tried to cross-over and failed (Utada, Boa, etc) and say that it's impossible for an Asian artist to break the U.S. Many talented, gifted people try to become successful music artists in the U.S. and fail. The U.S. market is incredibly over-saturated with artists. Talent isn't a guarantee that you'll be successful. Luck is a big component to success in that industry, just because there are so many people you're competing against.
