Satoshi Tsumabuki, Kazuya Kamenashi, and Yusuke Kamiji to star in the movie Vancouver no Asahi

Actor Satoshi Tsumabuki (33) will be starring in the movie based on the "legendary baseball team". Vancouver no Asahi (director Yuya Ishii), slated for a December release, is about the next generation of Japanese immigrants in Canada who fought against racism and poverty through baseball in order to inspire and give strength to their fellow immigrants. Joining Tsumabuki are other baseball enthusiasts in the industry such as KAT-TUN's Kazuya Kamenashi (27) and Yusuke Kamiji (34).

The story is based on the actual Japanese-Canadian baseball team "Vancouver Asahi" which existed before the war. They defeated Canadian teams one after another and became a glimmer of hope for the Japanese settlement, and eventually won the favor of the white society.

Tsumabuki plays the role of a Japanese nisei (2nd generation Japanese-Canadian) named Reggie Kasahara, the shortstop of the team who works in a lumbermill. This movie will not be a mere baseball movie but will mostly focus on the drama aspects of the story. The producers' reason for casting Tsumabuki was that they "wanted an actor whom people feel a sense of closeness to, and can easily empathize with". He's the only player in team Asahi who has never played baseball, but he trained hard for the role as the staff said "He was good enough to perform a sidethrow during his first training session."

The rest of the team is made up of talents who have been involved with baseball in one way or another. Former little-league player Kamenashi will be playing the role of the ace pitcher Roy Einishi, while Kamiji who used to be the catcher of the New York Mets' pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka in high school will be portraying Tom Miyake, the team's catcher. 2nd baseman Kei Kitamoto will be played by Ryo Katsuji (27) and 3rd baseman Frank Nojima by Sousuke Ikematsu, both experienced in baseball as well.

So Tsumabuki gets the main billing ahead of Kamenashi, huh? It's pretty rare for Johnny's to let someone else have the lead. Does Tsumabuki even have any baseball experience?

>Kamiji who used to be the catcher of the New York Mets' pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka in high school

Kamiji was a very bright prospect during his senior days, but when Matsuzaka became the ace, Kamiji's elbow was injured, thus limiting his first team appearances. It would've been nice if their timing met nicely.

He was still a sub even without the elbow injury.

I'm amazed that Tsumabuki still gets to play the main role despite all his movies flopping.
I'm guessing that this is gonna flop too.

Satoshi Tsumabuki was just in a movie that was set in an advertising agency, right?
If you come out in 3 or 4 movies a year like Tsumabuki does then he doesn't feel like this premium actor anymore.
They keep using these actresse like Haruka Ayase, Satomi Ishihara, and Kyoko Fukada in dramas and movies, yet actors like Satoshi Tsumabuki, Tatsuya Fujiwara, and Kenichi Matsuyama get the VIP treatment.
Satoshi Tsumabuki, Tatsuya Fujiwara, and Kenichi Matsuyama may get hits once in a while, but they basically flop.
It's really a mystery to me why they're getting better treatment.

Because Hori-pro also has a part in the movie production

I'm not particularly interested in this and I probably won't watch it, but I seriously think that they did well in casting all these actors experienced in baseball.

The most disappointing thing in sports flicks is the mostly amateur-ish playing scenes.
If that's at least improved then I think the entire thing will become more solid.

But if you gather all these really good ones, then it'd just stand out how bad the non-experienced ones are
Kamenashi and Kamiji are the only ones who sing, but I guess KAT-TUN will be singing the theme song, huh

So someone without baseball experience is the main actor. Well, he's an actor after all, so I guess it'll be fine.

If my memory serves me right,
This is about the Japanese who kept on playing without ever complaining, despite all the odds and disadvantages of unfair umpire judgments, like obvious balls being called as strikes. Then the anti-Japanese crowd starts booing the umpire. And with their bunting strategy which they kept throughout in order to win, they went from being the worst team to becoming the best team.

I heard that the best baseball player in showbiz is Kenji Takaoka, and next to him is Toru Nakamura. I wonder if that's true.

Aren't the ex-baseball players who turned into talents better?
There are a lot of comedians who went to the Kōshien and some played baseball in college

There was this movie when Kazushige played the role of a Tigers player in the movie Mr. Rookie...
And actual Hanshin players, together with former player Randy Bass, also took part in the movie.
(Kakefu didn't like the thought of seeing Kazushige star in a Hanshin uniform so he declined to take part in it.)

This was funded by Toho, had major fanfare surrounding the opening, but flopped bigtime after earning only 430 million w

The one where Kazushige played that mysterious masked man?

A TV drama is enough for something like this

Who's gonna watch this
Someone other than you, I guess w

Actor Satoshi Tsumabuki (33)

Wow, when did he become an old man?
I think they can make something better with these members, such a waste
I really can't associate Tsumabuki with baseball......

It's currently running on Big Comic Superior, but it looks like it will mainly be a match against an American high school. That's what they've been publishing for a long time now.

There will be 2 baseball-themed dramas starting in April,
then there's Soften (softball) and another baseball movie, huh
There are 2 dramas?
Roosevelt Game - Toshiaki Karasawa
Yowakutemo Katemasu - Kazunari Ninomiya

Oh right, Jun Ikeido's Roosevelt Game will be turned into a drama.
I heard that Hanzawa Naoki's producer will be running the show.

When talking about baseball movies, I think Taiwan's KANO looks good.
Masatoshi Nagase's the lead as the coach of the team. The players are kids who play baseball.

This is a really heavy story. I want to watch this one.
