Jaume Collet-Serra Returns to Direct AKIRA (EXCLUSIVE)
Stop it, please
How many years ago since this was first brought up?... I get the feeling that it'll suffer another setback, though.
There's no way they can recreate that kind of atmosphere
Gouriki to play the lead, please
It's better if they stop this.
They should be aware why the project got scratched once.
Gouriki will be playing Kaneda
This is the one that involves Butaprio?
Anyway, no Koreans nor Ken Watanabe, please.
Kaneda's bike will probably be the thing to look out for in this one
With Gouriki's current momentum, they can change the title to AYAME so she'll be able to play the lead in a Hollywood movie
That's our oh-so consistent Hollywood, renowned for raping original stories
This project might be possible now. But let Otomo himself direct this.
It's really astounding how foreigners love AKIRA.
No matter how many times it falls through, they persistently try to bring it back up.
It'd be impossible if it wasn't an '80s movie www
It's not the type of movie you'd do in the 21st century.
They said they'd turn them into brothers or something, right?
Even if they did give the go signal for this, I'm sure that they'll have another hitch with the cast.
Are they planning to do this without any Japanese?
Toki Shiozawa who'll play Miyako has already passed away, it'll be impossible already.
(Devilman, Casshern, Tomorrow's Joe, Tetsujin 28-gou)
You think we can watch this after seeing Man of Steel and Pacific Rim?
If they will push through with this, I'm sure that they'll pour effort into the bike.
I'll be looking forward to that.
Things we'll probably see in the Hollywood version of AKIRA
* Post-apocalyptic setting of New York in the near future
* Japanese roles will be played by Chinese actors
* A happy-go-lucky character who'll immediately get shot and die
* A nuclear missile that just looks like a normal missile
* A punchline that it was all the work of aliens
* The appearance of a survivor of the Vietnam War
* Citizens who'll have their car or bikes snatched away from them
* The engine not starting on a beat-down car when the characters are trying to escape (but will start when hit hard)
* The American president who'll encourage the citizens
* The Star‐Spangled Banner waving in the background amidst chants of "U-S-A! U-S-A!"
* Kissing scene between the hero and the heroine
They probably just don't want other companies stealing the rights for the adaptation, that's why they're periodically leaking out this info. Warner has no intentions of doing it.
There's no point in turning it into live action.
That has meaning because it was drawn.
Gouriki-san is warming up
An anime remake would be better.
I was really amazed when I saw it back then, but it just looks lame now..
It was well received because it was done back then.
It won't seem fresh anymore.
It's already an old-fashioned view of the world.
Will it end up like Dragonball or will it turn into Batman?
There are a lot of pretty interesting stuff in the original that weren't included in the anime, though. Like the tanks destroying the buildings downtown.
There was also talk that they were negotiating SPEC to become an American drama but it collapsed.
I still can't trust this.
This guy as Tetsuo, huh...
I didn't really get the story of this, it wasn't good.
Didn't they say that they'll also make Evangelion into live action?
Things already felt so bad back in 2011 when they said that it would be set in Neo-Manhattan, not in Neo-Tokyo; that Kaneda and Tetsuo will be brothers and are running a bar, etc. I still can't keep my hopes up even if they choose to restart the project.
If they don't hurry, the times will catch up to them!
Are they aiming for another gag like the Dragonball movie?
I hope they stop this
Why are there a lot of shi+ who just keep on adapting these works that don't even need live action versions and just end up raping the original?
Please don't forget the Hollywood version of Dai Nipponjin as well
Who'll benefit from whitewashing the cast?
These rumors have been coming and going for over 10 years now.
Don't worry guys, it'll break down again.
By the way, there was also talk of having a Hollywood remake of DOME, right?
I think the anime had that distinct feel to it because of that smoke.
They exerted too much effort in that smoke. How many sheets did they draw just for that?
I read the comics and watched the anime, but what's so good about this?
It was just that the backgrounds were crazily drawn in fine detail, right?
The techniques they used in expressing it were so polished, it was amazing. But Otomo has almost no stories that you can call good. And I think that fault has become more evident the moment his works were turned into anime.
Americans should just stop raping the original stories
For Otomo's works, Sayonara Nippon was the richest, and the best. And it was amazing how he wrote that while still in his mid-20s.
His drawings are good, but his stories are desperately bad
It'll be impossible. Stop it.
They shouldn't force a live action version of this...
I'd rather see a version with better drawings and with different music.
Stop it... (trembling voice
The tragedy of Dragonball
