Avex tried to create Hamasaki's successor and kept debuting newbies but none made it big, so there's still no one to take her spot. I think Kana Nishino who isn't from Avex is the current person closest to her position, but of course she'd never hold a candle to how Hamasaki was during her prime.

AKBがトリなのが気にくわなかった説とかあったけど番組はただ年代別のヒット曲紹介していくだけで別にAKBがトリって感じじゃなかったし

The Music Station one was connected to that.
There was talk going around that she cancelled because she didn't like the idea of AKB performing in the last spot, but the show just wanted to feature the hit songs chronologically, and that didn't really mean that AKB was chosen to perform last.

I think the AKB wotas are the ones spreading the rumor about her cancelling her appearance. They're like, "Hamasaki cancelled the Music Station event because AKB is the finale! AKB's really amazing!", but it really wasn't the case. I think the theory about her arguing with Tohoshinki is the most valid one.

ルックスも似合ってないのにマドンナぱくって

その点安室はダンスだけに集中して歌唱法はプロデューサーの指示を仰いだのが良かったな

ルックスも自分の顔に似合ＪＬＯとかのラテン系セレブぱくってるのがまた上手い

She started using vibrato in her songs and tried to make her lyrics look cool by using English.
She even changed her looks by imitating Madonna, which didn't suit her. 
Hamasaki was just caught by the "artist bug" and she just destroyed all the good things going for her by herself.

Amuro on the other hand focused on her dancing and just followed her producer's instructions.
It was also a good move on her part to pattern her looks after JLo and other Latina artists, which actually suited her.

No I just get dispatched to various places.
Then I earned 100,000 in half a month.
Though I also sold a lot of stuff (LOL)
I was able to watch Ayu's concert for free.
Because the audience turnout was so low LOL
Right, the one they call "Sakura".
I was able to see Ayu for free.
And also received money from it! It really made my day!

I think they initially tried to market her like Tomomi Kahara when she debuted, but after seeing Ringo's, Aiko's, and Utada's hits, they forced her to become like an artist. To think that she didn't even have an ounce of that talent.

テレビでも嘘くさいドキュメンタリーをやってた。

ネットはまだまだ一般層に普及してなかったから、そういう手法が通用した。

She was like a spokesperson for the women of her generation who felt alone, and that was how she was pushed into the light by the media. 

They even did this fishy documentary about her on TV. The Internet wasn't widely available yet at that time, so that kind of method worked.

It did go down gradually, but it just dropped all of a sudden from late last year to this year. Her original album only sold half of what the previous one sold. She even disappeared from TV.

During her early years, Hamasaki was like Tomo-chan.
She wasn't exceptionally good at singing but she seemed to enjoy it and did her best until she became a "queen".
