I think they'll still sell some for the general public but it's pretty tough every year.

Based on the opinion of musical writers, Rockin'on in itself isn't troubled with the attendance, but they're trying to attract the idol crowd "for the sake of the future". But Fuji Rock will apparently stay true to its stance that they won't be relying on idols.

I hope the influential figures like Sakanaction, Ken Yokoyama, and Hosomi join forces and start a festival that's mainly for musicians
Yokoyama-san said that Sakanaction would have sold over 1 million copies in the '90s

Datsuko and Kyary, yeah of course, and there will also be a lot of people who would think of watching them since they're there already.
ロキノン系バンドだけだと取材は来ないけどアイドルが出ればスポーツ新聞もアイドル系雑誌も来る
そして今の時代そっちの方が宣伝効果が高い
I think this is one sort of media strategy.
If it only consists of Rokinon bands then no one would cover the event. But if there are idols, then the sports papers and idol magazines will come. And in these ages, that's the better way of promoting yourself.
